Support
Last updated: 7 August 2026
Portugal Speaks is made by Portugal Vivo, a small team in Portugal, and support goes straight to us. There's no ticket queue and no chatbot in between.
We aim to reply within two business days, Portugal time.
If you're writing about a problem, it helps enormously to include your Windows version, which part of the app it happened in, and what you'd just tapped. A screenshot is worth three paragraphs.
Common questions
I paid, but the app still shows locked content
Open Settings and choose Restore Purchase. Purchases are tied to your Microsoft account, so this is also how you unlock the app on a second PC without paying twice. Make sure you're signed into the Microsoft Store with the same account you bought it on.
Speech Recognition or AI Conversation is asking for an API key
That's expected. Those two features send audio or text to a third-party service, so rather than build the cost into the price, they run on your own key: you pay the provider directly, usually cents. Add one under Settings (OpenAI for speech recognition; OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Microsoft Azure for conversation practice). Keys are encrypted on your machine and never sent anywhere except the provider you chose.
Both features are entirely optional. The course itself, every lesson, recording, quiz, and video, works without a key.
No sound
Check the Windows volume mixer first; Windows sometimes assigns a new app its own muted channel. If audio works elsewhere in the app but one specific card is silent, tell us which one. That's a content bug on our end and we'd like to fix it.
The layout looks cramped or cut off
The window has a minimum size of 960×700. Below that the vocabulary grid runs out of room. Drag the window larger, or maximize it.
Will my progress survive a reinstall?
Progress, streaks, bookmarks, and settings live in local Windows app storage on the machine you learned on. Uninstalling clears them, and there's no cloud sync yet, so progress doesn't follow you between PCs. Your purchase does.
Is this Brazilian Portuguese?
No. Every recording is European Portuguese, spoken by native speakers from Portugal. The vocabulary, spelling, and rhythm are the ones you'll hear in Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve.
System requirements
- Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later
- About 1.5 GB of free storage
- Speakers or headphones
- A microphone, only if you want to use Speech Recognition
An internet connection is needed to download the app and for the optional API-key features. Everything else works offline.
Refunds
Purchases go through the Microsoft Store, so refunds are handled by Microsoft under their refund policy. Write to us anyway if something went wrong. We'd rather hear about it.
Privacy
The app collects nothing: no account, no analytics, no telemetry. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
